A perfect 24 hours in Bath
After experiencing a fabulous short break in Bath several years ago I always promised myself I would go back. Therefore you can imagine my delight when for my birthday I was taken back there to experience the new Thermae Bath Spa - Britain's only natural thermal Spa.
After a wonderfully lazy start to our day we reached Bath by mid afternoon and checked into our quality assessed B&B Elgin Villa, which was located in the centre of the city, round the corner from the spectacular Royal Crescent.
Having checked in we eagerly headed off to the Thermae Bath Spa for a glorious evening of pampering and relaxation (the evening is really the best time to go as it is not so busy).
Apparently it has been twenty-eight years since the last person bathed in Bath's natural thermal waters - in that case the Thermae Bath Spa was definitely worth the wait. The Spa offers state-of-the-art facilities designed to refresh the body and soothe the mind - and certainly does that.
Minerva Bath
We started with the Minerva Bath on the lower ground floor which was light and airy. The natural thermal bath with its mineral-rich water, whirlpools and neck massages certainly helped to calm and relax us as we happily floated around.
Steam Room
Relaxed and happy we set off to the steam floor. The dramatic contrast of light and steam created a magical setting, as did the four circular glass steam rooms in the centre of the room. Each gently infused with essential oils, such as eucalyptus and mint, lavender, mountain pine and jasmine. My favourite was the eucalyptus and mint which left you feeling relaxed and happy.
In the centre of the room there was also a 'waterfall' shower, interspersed with fibre optic lighting, which provided the lightest misting of water or an invigorating shower to re-energise your body.
Roof top pool
We left our personal favourite to the last - the open-air rooftop pool with its bubbling airseats and breathtaking views of Bath and the surrounding countryside. Being outside in a pool on a cold winters evening was certainly a surreal and wonderful experience. However despite being several stories up and open to the elements you did not feel the cold (except for the few seconds when you had to get in and out of the pool and it was freezing).
Bath by foot
That evening, wonderfully relaxed we slept like babies and woke up the next day totally invigorated. With the sun out shining we took the opportunity to walk around the centre of Bath enjoying its wonderful architecture and stunning hill top views, with a different view around each corner. Walking around Bath is really one of the best ways to enjoy the city and to get a great work out at the same time as it is very hilly and steep.
Other great things we have done on past visits to Bath or the surrounding area:
