Your perfect English day

We recently ran a competition asking our users to share their perfect English day with us. Some of the responses were inspiring. Take a look, and while you're here, why not share your perfect English day with us?

"My idea of a perfect English day is a bike ride with my family on a crisp spring morning with the birds singing, the children laughing and beautiful English countryside as far as the eye can see".

Hilary

"My idea of a perfect English day is a hotel somewhere in the Lake District, a choice English breakfast. Fair weather. With friends, taking a walk on any one of the glorious Lakeland fells. Visiting a pub for some real beer, a rest and some good chatter. A long bath, meet friends and dine on excellent Lakeland fare".

Christine

"My idea of a perfect English day is the quintessential Lake District following in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter - which we did last Sunday.  The weather was perfect and we went across Windermere by ferry in the beautiful sunshine and you could turn back the day 50 years or so and it would not have been any different.  England has so much to offer but there are none so blind as those who do not want to see the beauty".

Ivor

"My idea of a perfect English day is...A glass of wine sitting in the sunshine, a book to hand listening to my favourite band, kids are happy playing in the sea and some good old fish and chips for tea...."

Sharon

"Full English Breakfast,
Quick dip in the sea,
fish and chips for lunch,
quick mug of tea,
Back into beachwear
back down to the sand,
play with the kids
build castles tall and grand,
amusement arcades
consuming your money
then a cabaret that night
watching people be funny".

Anthony

"Sitting on the park by the lake watching the children feed the ducks with scraps of bread that Grandma patiently passes to them.  Mum and Dad take turns pushing the baby on the swings, smiling at Grandad, trousers rolled up, wading into the paddling pool to cool himself down".

Margaret

'My idea of a perfect English day is...warm spring sunshine with a slight breeze rustling through the trees as I walk through the woods with my family. The leaves on the beech are just coming out and are soft and silky to touch. I am surrounded by the scent and sight of bluebells in every direction".

Sandra

"Visiting my grandma, she is 92 years young, and when we visit we always have a great time, she gets out family photographs and tells us stories about when she was a young girl, then she makes us steak and kidney pie and chips, - perfect".

Julie

"My idea of a perfect English day is - a sunny Bank Holiday Monday spent at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, whizzing around at high speed and enjoying the sun. Then travelling back home through the Peak District and gazing out of the window at the scenery. Probably with a bit of sunburn"!

Nicola

"We climb out of bed at dawn to fire up our 1936 vintage steam roller. Gently hissing, full of steam we off trundle round leafy lanes. Maybe we’ll take in an old time utterly English steam fair or a pub lunch where our magnificent machine is always admired. Absolute magic"!

Pamela and David

"My idea of a perfect English day is sitting by a slow lazy river at about three in the afternoon when the sun just seems to hang in the sky drenching the grass with a warm glow, a light breeze blowing through my clothes, and someone offers me a glass of cold Pimms with freshly plucked strawberries, crisp cucumber and torn mint floating groggily amongst the ice-cubes and a chunk of fresh crusty bread with soft and gooey brie with lashings of caramelised onion relish followed by sweet and ripe raspberries".

Danielle

"Sun, sea & sexy food whilst relaxing within lovely surrounding & enjoying the beaming sunshine especially on our beautiful golden beaches with crystal clear water in various shades of blue. We also like to enjoy various local specially produced foods whilst on our holidays throughout the country".

Chris

"A day at the seaside with so much to do,
with family and friends, and the dog can come too
There's paddling and sandcastles, rock pools and shells,
sea air and sunshine and tangy seaside smells
Candyfloss and postcards sold on the pier
Beckoning all - WISH YOU WERE HERE"!

Julie

"The smell of flowers, the gentle hum of bees,
A ploughman's lunch with real English cheese,
Children's laughter and grass-stained knees,
A village green shaded by trees,
Ducks waddling by quacking as they please,
A thatched village cafe selling cream teas,
I sit in a deckchair, taking my ease".

Gwynfa

"'My idea of a perfect English day is...'Putting my best foot forward, grabbing the wellies, packing the rucksack full of enticing morsels (cucumber sandwiches and ginger beer!) and a good book. Striding out into the wonderful countryside, listening to the sweet song of the birds, stopping at a typical county pub for a drink and a chat".

My Perfect English Day. I love London and when I am there I wake up with my tea and scones, then walk to sloan street on a saturday morning buy old books and continue on to portobello road where I buy everything I can and then pick up lunch and savor the day with a picnic at hyde park. That is my favorite day and I dream of it everyday after.

My perfect English day.
Seeing my cousins, aunts and uncles in the West Midlands,
having a traditional English breakfast,
going to a small village, Cookley, and have fish and chips.
Cabdury chocolate. Need I say more?
Beautiful green grasses, and scenic villages. Every Americans envy..
I am truely proud to be English.

My perfect English day is the day that I traveled in london.I think it is very beutiful and romantic city.I have a happy time always when I went to london.

A perfect English day for me is....

Waking up to a full English breakfast, church bells ringing in the distance, trotting off to a gold beach, or relaxing in one of England's many historic cities, enjoying Devonshire clotted cream and scones. Enjoying a fine pint of English Ale, with English cheese on toast with Worcestershire Sauce for lunch, relaxing in the sunshine. Then later, perhaps fish and chips or a roast dinner and later maybe a short stroll around the moor.

I live and work in a busy city in Asia. My idea of a perfect English day is when I spend my holiday there. Enjoy every relaxing day, especially summer time. Going picnic in the park, travel around by canal or train with local beer. Later go sopping and meet friends in the pub. I would never get bored whether in the city or countryside in the UK.

Perfect day....

About 6am...walking through Bloomsbury...imagining I`ll encounter Virginia Woolf....believing that it is 1936 and the sky is blue....stopping at the local market (which still is a market) for some fresh sausage and bread rolls.

And then awakening to the reality.

My perfect English day would consist of a picnic at Kenwood House in North London, followed by one of their classical outdoor concerts in the evening with fireworks.
