We love...The Cary Arms

The Cary Arms (c) Rosie Spooner

Torbay is known as the English Riviera and it is easy to see why; with the sun soaking the seashore, it could easily be mistaken for somewhere in the Mediterranean.

Nora Maki, our social media executive, spent a weekend there, basing herself in The Cary Arms, a luxury beachside hotel. Here’s her straight-to-the-point story.

Seaside chic

Located on a picturesque hillside and with open sea views, I immediately took a liking to the place.

My room, the Captain Suite, was bright with sea views and a private balcony. Absolutely stunning! As the sun was out, I wanted to get a closer glimpse of the space outside, carved into the cliff wall.

Spa bliss

Having travelled in the midst of the Friday rush-hour, I was really excited about my spa appointment – a neck and back massage with hot stones. For someone that has never experienced this before, there is only one word to describe it – bliss.

Foodie heaven

The dinner at The Cary Arms was delicious! The locally sourced lamb was cooked to perfection and the mash was the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Makes me hungry just thinking about it… I also tried my first ever Eaton mess and can vouch it’s amazing. Coming from someone who loves sweets and desserts this is probably the highest ranking ever given.

Much as I’d have liked to eat in The Cary Arms every day, I managed to drag myself out to explore. Carolyn from the English Riviera Tourism Company took me for a drive, introducing me to the south of Devon. The scenery was breath taking; the English Riviera had got me. We headed to Brixham for a seafood dinner at Beamers, located in the old fishing port, a few doors down from the fish market. The service was fantastic, as was the food. Hand on heart, I have never eaten fish so tasty in my life!
