We love...Peter Pan-themed
afternoon tea

Peter Pan Afternoon Tea at Lancaster LondonTempting cupcakes at the Lancaster.

I’m the girl who refuses to grow up, and why should I? I have five younger brothers and sisters and a five-year-old niece. I get to go to the park, run around at the zoo and be the cool older sister and aunt. I take the role very seriously and in my latest attempt to hold on to my crown, I took my niece Kess for her first fairy dust-sprinkled afternoon tea.

We donned our finest frocks and headed to The Lancaster Hotel to experience a little piece of Neverland in the form of Peter Pan Afternoon Tea.

The waiter showed us to our seats and fussed over Kess; she was given her own pot of hot chocolate. I opted for a glass of Champagne and plenty of Earl Grey.

Then the feast began. We ignored the rules and tucked in to savoury and sweet in whatever order we felt like, going from Lost Boy’s Sandwiches of smoked salmon and cream cheese with chives to smoked chicken with spring onions and mayonnaise on walnut bread to Mrs Darling’s Scones with clotted cream and lashings of strawberry jam.

The Neverland adventure continues with the Peter Pan Trail.

We couldn’t decide which to try first out of Peter and Wendy’s treats. The chocolate mousse, the raspberry macaroon, the strawberry mille-feuille, the passion fruit pot au crème, or the mini Viennese biscuits? Oh and not forgetting  a ‘fairy dust shot’ sorbet.

We made a valiant effort but we still had leftovers, which the waiter kindly boxed up for us to take home.

Before we left he explained to Kess that the afternoon tea was inspired by Peter Pan because there's a bronze statue of him across the way in Hyde Park. He handed her a map with directions to the statue and a fairy-dust pouch filled with breadcrumbs to feed the ducks in the Serpentine. Her little face lit up as we went on our quest to find Peter.

Needless to say, I still have the coolest aunt crown firmly on my head.
