Last week I took the family on holiday and the main objective was to keep the kids occupied (two kids under two!). We hired a lovely cottage between Swanage and Corfe Castle. Having spent my summer holidays as a kid camping at Corfe Castle this was like taking a trip down memory lane (with out the cow pats!). The weather was excellent considering we on the verge of November. Our first excursion was to Studland

I had somewhat mixed feelings when I saw you’d voted to send me on a Pirate Walk of Bristol for this month’s England’s little adventure. My previous encounter with a pirate - a school fancy dress party, a pushy 10 year old, and a bowl of jelly – had not ended well. Shiver me timbers, indeed! But as my train pulled into Bristol Temple Mead station on a gloriously sunny summer’s day and I noticed a jolly looking chap, complete with pirate hat and Jolly Roger flag, waiting by the ticket gate, I knew I had an interesting afternoon ahead of me.

Last weekend a few of us visited the Cotswolds. We had dinner at The Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping Campden with Chris and Rob Rees ‘The Cotswold Chef’ which was good fun. Paul and Rae were staying at the hotel and I stayed over the road at The Noel Arms in a huge four-poster bed that even I needed a step to climb in to. Ian Taylor, who owns both properties has plans to refurbish the Noel Arms to make it part of Cotswold House and include a new spa over the next couple of years.

We took the journalists for lunch at The Trouble House Inn – a Michelin-starred pub on the way to Tetbury, Gloucestershire where we had some really inventive dishes in a cosy environment and didn’t want to leave.

10 days relaxing in Cornwall, lots of walks, sailing, surfing and BBQ. It is the same every year, my parents book a cottage for a couple of weeks in the summer, my sister and I get first pickings on the dates we want to come and who we would like to invite and then it’s offered up to various cousin’s and family friends.

Despite its remote location the campsite had been easy to find. Cloud Farm sits on the North Devon / Somerset border in Exmoor National Park. We followed a sign off the main road down an increasingly narrow lane all the way to the bottom of the magnificent Doone Valley. Driving up the bumpy lane to the farm I immediately knew we’d chosen the right place. We found a beautiful spot next to a pretty little river at the bottom of a large hill where I was at that time certain the rain god lived.
